I Know, I Know, My Child Should Be Reading Every Night
Meh. Anyone else rather watch paint dry then practice reading with your child? Okay, maybe it’s not THAT bad, but i certainly can think of 50 other things I would rather do with her. Like draw, or dance, or sing, or put on a puppet show or get a root canal. Anyhoo.. I just wanted to share some delightful news with some other #ReadingHaters — you can do OTHER things than just read to help your child with his or her READING COMPREHENSION!!! In fact, experts highly recommend it. So, the next time you are dragging your feet to hit the books with your little, remember to incorporate some more exciting strategies into the mix to supplement the reading portion. Such as VISUALIZATION (where your child draws a picture with as many details as possible from descriptions and actions in the book), or making a SONG to summarize the most important events, or creating a PUPPET SHOW together to recall some dialogue from the story. Great now I really have NO EXCUSES left to get crackin on these Pinkalicous books, right? Or at least now I am more armed with firepower to talk someone else into doing it!
